5G Coverage in Belgium by Province: Every Operator Compared

5G coverage in Belgium is close to complete in Brussels and Flanders, and patchy in the south of Wallonia. With the best of the three networks, outdoor 5G reaches between 99.5% and 100% of the inhabited territory in Brussels and every Flemish province, but only 87.8% in Namur and 74.0% in the province of Luxembourg. Telenet/BASE has the widest 5G coverage in eight of the eleven regions, Proximus leads in Brussels, Walloon Brabant and Hainaut. The figures below come from operator data published by BIPT, the Belgian telecom regulator, and aggregated per province by Selectra in August 2026.

5G coverage in Belgium by province

The table shows outdoor 5G coverage as a share of the inhabited territory, per province and per network. The last column is the best network in that province.

What the numbers mean for you

Your network matters more in Wallonia than in Flanders. In Brussels and the Flemish provinces, all three networks offer 5G almost everywhere, with one exception: Orange covers only 43.8% of Limburg. In Namur and Luxembourg, the gap between the networks is large, and Telenet/BASE is the strongest network in both.

Some towns have very little 5G on any network. Chimay, Beauraing and Virton each have less than 30% outdoor 5G coverage with the best network, according to the same data. Where 5G is missing, your gsm falls back to 4G: BIPT measured in January 2026 that Proximus, Orange and Telenet each give more than 99.5% of the population mobile data at a guaranteed minimum speed.

Belgium as a whole scores well: with at least one of the three networks, 98.3% of the inhabited territory has outdoor 5G. Read why mobile coverage in Belgium can still be bad for the structural reasons behind the gaps.

Which 5G network does your brand use?

Coverage depends on the network, not on the brand you pay. Every mobile brand in Belgium runs on one of these networks.

Orange

Telenet/BASE

DIGI

Own 5G network, Proximus 4G where DIGI has no coverage yet

DIGI is not in the province table, because BIPT does not include it in its coverage maps yet. BIPT measured DIGI's own network at 34.4% of the population in January 2026, and our DIGI Belgium review explains how its Proximus partnership works. Some brands also limit 5G to certain plans, so check the plan, not just the network. The full overview is in our guide to mobile operators in Belgium.

Outdoor coverage is not indoor coverage

Expect weaker 5G indoors than the table shows. Walls and glass block part of the signal. BIPT's figures from January 2025 show the difference per network, as a share of households:

Proximus

BIPT also notes that good 5G coverage does not guarantee a good experience, because speed depends on how many people use the same antenna. For everyday use, 5G is rarely the bottleneck: our guide on how many Mbps you need on your mobile shows that most apps work well on a good 4G connection.

How to check 5G coverage at your address

Check your street, not your province. Three steps:

  1. Open the BIPT atlas at bipt-data.be, enter your address and compare Proximus, Orange and Telenet side by side.

  2. Check your phone. You need a 5G compatible gsm, a plan that includes 5G and 5G switched on: on iPhone under Settings, Mobile Service, Mobile Data Options, Voice and Data; on Android under the mobile network settings.

  3. Look at the status bar. When you are connected, it shows 5G instead of 4G or LTE.

The next step for Belgian networks is 5G Standalone, a 5G network that no longer depends on 4G. Proximus says it was the first in Belgium to offer it commercially, under the name 5G+.

Coverage that is not tied to one province

Most Belgian plans give you one network, and the table above shows that the best network in Limburg is not the best network in Brussels. Firsty is building mobile plans for people who live in Belgium on an eSIM, with no SIM card to swap, no contract and no roaming setting to remember. The 15 GB plan and the 100 GB plan work at home prices in Belgium, the EU and eleven other countries, and Firsty World adds unlimited data in Belgium and the EU, with data in 176 countries. Every connection Firsty sells also connects someone in Belgium who needs it, not as charity, but as how the business works. The Belgian plans launch soon, so join the waiting list at Firsty.app and keep an eye on what Firsty is building.

FAQ

Which province in Belgium has the best 5G coverage?

The Brussels Capital Region has the best 5G coverage in Belgium, with 100% of its inhabited territory covered outdoors by Proximus. East Flanders, West Flanders and Flemish Brabant follow closely, each at 99.9% or more with Telenet/BASE.

Which province has the worst 5G coverage?

The province of Luxembourg has the weakest 5G coverage in Belgium. The best network there, Telenet/BASE, covers 64.7% of the inhabited territory outdoors, and all three networks together reach 74.0%. Namur follows at 87.8%.

Which operator has the best 5G coverage in Belgium?

Telenet/BASE has the widest outdoor 5G coverage in Belgium, with 96.3% of the inhabited territory, ahead of Proximus at 92.0% and Orange at 84.9% (BIPT data aggregated by Selectra, August 2026). Proximus leads in Brussels, Walloon Brabant and Hainaut.

Does Belgium have 5G everywhere?

No, but almost. At least one network offers outdoor 5G on 98.3% of the inhabited territory, and the gaps are mostly in the south of Namur and Luxembourg. Where there is no 5G, your phone uses 4G.

How can I check 5G coverage in my area?

Enter your address in the BIPT coverage atlas at bipt-data.be, which compares Proximus, Orange and Telenet on four levels, from no coverage to very good indoor coverage. The maps of the operators themselves show the same data for their own network.

Does DIGI have 5G in Belgium?

Yes. DIGI is building its own 5G network, which reached 34.4% of the Belgian population in January 2026 according to BIPT. Outside its own coverage, DIGI customers use the Proximus 4G network.
