DIGI Belgium Review 2026: Price, Network, Roaming and Support

Text "DIGI" in blue on textured wall, overlay shows "Local Belgian eSIM" with icons.

DIGI is a Belgian mobile operator that competes mainly on price: it has been active in Belgium since December 2024, sells mobile plans from 3 euro per month with no fixed term, offers eSIM and runs a customer service you can call seven days a week. Three limits are worth knowing: DIGI's own 5G network covers about 30% of the population so far, with 4G across Belgium through a partnership with Proximus, there is no voicemail and no WiFi calling, and roaming does not work in a long list of countries outside Europe. Firsty is a telecom company too, so this DIGI Belgium review only uses what DIGI and Test Aankoop publish, checked on 14 October 2026.

Who is DIGI?

DIGI Belgium is a joint project of the Romanian telecom group DIGI and the Belgian connectivity company Citymesh, and calls itself Belgium's fourth national operator. The DIGI group also operates in Romania, Spain, Italy and Portugal, where it says it serves 25 million customers in total. In Belgium, DIGI sells mobile plans, prepaid cards, fiber internet and 5G Home Internet, but no television.

Which network does DIGI use in Belgium?

DIGI uses two networks. It is building its own mobile network, and its own 5G reaches about 30% of the population today, with a target of near full coverage by 2030. Where DIGI has no coverage yet, your phone uses the Proximus network for 4G, thanks to a national roaming agreement. Calls over 4G (VoLTE) work on Apple, Samsung (One UI 8.0 or newer) and Xiaomi phones.

DIGI prices and plans

DIGI competes mainly on price. These are the prices DIGI published on 14 October 2026:

Plan

Data

Calls and texts

3 euro per month

7 GB

Unlimited to DIGI numbers, 0.01 euro per minute and 0.07 euro per text to other networks

5 euro per month

30 GB

Unlimited calls to all networks, unlimited texts to DIGI numbers

7 euro per month

40 GB

Unlimited calls to all networks, unlimited texts to DIGI numbers

9 euro per month

60 GB

Unlimited calls to all networks, unlimited texts to DIGI numbers

A few rules matter once you are a customer:

  • Extra data costs 0.60 euro per GB in Belgium and the EU zone, and unused data does not roll over.

  • Texts to other networks cost 0.07 euro for every text you send above the number you receive.

  • Change plan once per month, effective on the first day of the next month.

  • Budget alert at 20 euro of extra costs by default: it warns you, but it does not block usage.

You keep your number when you switch: you start the transfer by calling 02 870 10 01, and it takes up to 24 hours, weekends excluded. Read how to keep your number when you change mobile providers for the general steps in Belgium.

DIGI or hey!: which one fits you?

DIGI and hey! (the digital brand of Orange Belgium) both target people who want a low price, but they work differently. hey! runs fully on the Orange 4G and 5G network, sells only online and offers support by chat and WhatsApp, without a phone number for general questions. DIGI combines its own network with Proximus 4G, has a phone helpline and physical points of sale, and starts at a lower price. hey! includes the United Kingdom in its roaming zone, and in March 2026 it received Test Aankoop's "Best of the test" labels. The comparison table below puts both side by side.

Does DIGI support eSIM?

Yes. You choose an eSIM or a physical SIM card when you order, and the eSIM activates automatically, so billing starts on the day you order. You install it by scanning the QR code in MyDIGI, DIGI's online customer zone. Moving the eSIM to another phone means a new code, at 1 euro. New to the technology? DIGI reviews and customer service

You can call DIGI on 02 870 41 41, email care@digi-belgium.be, or visit a DIGI stand or partner dealer. Public DIGI reviews on Trustpilot, Reddit and comparison sites are mixed: the price is the point customers praise most, while complaints often concern number transfers and reaching support. In May 2025, Test Aankoop reported almost 300 complaints since the launch. In June 2026, Test Aankoop described a positive balance for consumers more than a year after DIGI's arrival, and noted that DIGI did not raise its prices in 2026.

DIGI Belgium roaming

Inside DIGI's EU roaming zone, you use your plan at Belgian rates. That zone also includes Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova and Ukraine, but not the United Kingdom, and Switzerland and Andorra have their own rates. Outside Europe, DIGI charges per country and offers roaming in 128 countries. It does not work in destinations such as China, India, South Africa and Malaysia, so check the list before you travel. DIGI prepaid cards include no roaming at all.

DIGI Belgium review: our verdict

DIGI is a strong choice if price comes first, you mainly use your phone in Belgium and the EU, and you like having a number to call. Look further if you travel often to the United Kingdom or outside Europe, or if you rely on voicemail or WiFi calling at home.

Telecom that works for you

Most Belgian mobile plans still stop at the edge of a roaming zone, and travellers pay extra or lose their connection the moment they cross it. Firsty is building telecom that works for you, not against you: no SIM card to swap, no roaming setting to remember, no zone chart to check and no surprise bill. Every connection Firsty sells also connects someone in Belgium who needs it, not as charity, but because that is how the business works. Keep an eye on what Firsty is building, because things are moving, and discover more at Firsty.app.

FAQ

Is DIGI in Belgium good?

DIGI is a good choice for price focused users who stay mainly in Belgium and the EU: plans start at 3 euro and 60 GB costs 9 euro per month. Test Aankoop saw a positive balance for consumers in June 2026, after many complaints in the first months. Check the 5G coverage, roaming list and missing voicemail first.

Which network does DIGI use in Belgium?

DIGI uses its own network, with 5G for about 30% of the population, and the Proximus network for 4G wherever its own network does not reach yet. Coverage across Belgium therefore relies on Proximus 4G for now.

Is DIGI Mobile good for travel?

DIGI works at Belgian rates in its EU roaming zone, which includes Norway, Moldova and Ukraine but not the United Kingdom. Outside Europe, rates are set per country, and roaming does not work in destinations such as China, India and South Africa.

Why is DIGI so cheap?

DIGI says it keeps costs low by building and running its own networks, including fiber to your door, and passing those savings on. It also keeps its plans simple, with few extras such as voicemail or WiFi calling.

Which mobile provider is the best in Belgium?

The best provider depends on how you use your phone. DIGI starts at 3 euro per month, while hey! received Test Aankoop's "Best of the test" labels in March 2026 and includes the United Kingdom in its roaming zone. Compare network coverage at your address, support options and roaming before you choose.

How do I contact DIGI Belgium?

Call 02 870 41 41, Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 22:00 and Sunday from 9:00 to 21:00, or email care@digi-belgium.be. You can also visit a DIGI stand or a DIGI dealer.

Does DIGI have voicemail?

No. DIGI does not offer voicemail; instead, you receive a text when someone tried to call you while your phone was off or out of coverage. DIGI does not offer WiFi calling either.
